For the non-fishing members in your party, or if you just need a break from catching fish, there are plenty of local attractions and activities to keep everyone occupied. Below we have given a brief description of our personal favourites:
VITRE
Just 20 minutes away, Vitre is one of the best preserved medieval towns in France. Quaint bars, shops and restaurants nestle in the cobbled streets surrounding the Chateau.
LAVAL
Laval is a major town less than half an hour’s drive away. Laval has a number of museums, busy boutiques and restaurants as well as a traditional market. The Chateau at Laval overlooks the river Mayenne, where you can hire a boat for a trip down the river.
CHATEAU GONTIER
Chateau Gontier is a beautiful 4 star Ville Fleurie (Town of Flowers) on the Mayenne river which has a large street and cattle market each Thursday.
REFUGE DE L'ARCHE
A small and friendly animal refuge / sanctuary which houses about 1500 animals of around 150 different species in over 450 hectares.
CHOCOLATE FACTORY
An absolute must. Tour the factory and taste the chocolate. There are two to choose from, one in Chateau Gontier and one in Laval.
CRAON
The town of Craon has a magnificent 18th century Chateau with 42 hectares of parkland to explore.
COSSE LE VIVIEN
Here you will find the Museum of Robert Tatin. Fantastic architecture created by Robert Tatin (1902-1983). Paintings, designs, ceramics testify to this artist's diverse creativity.
MONT ST. MICHAEL
The clean sandy beach at Mont Saint Michael is 90 minutes away, and is famous for its abbey and walled city at the end of a causeway out in the sea. As well as exploring the abbey, there are many great shops and restaurants.
GOLF
There are numerous golf courses between 45 minutes and a hour away from the venue.
PARIS
Enjoy a day in the capital city of France. Take the TGV (fast trains) from either Vitre in 2 hours or Laval in 1 hour 45 minutes.
