A fabulous week of total relaxation with some cracking carp to 41lbs for this lovely fishing couple
This week we had the great pleasure of welcoming back fishing couple Ian and Caroline for their third trip to the venue. As busy, hardworking professionals, they arrive tired yet excited and love the instant “I’m at home” feeling that they get when they arrive at Beausoleil.
After a glass and wine and good catch up we headed off for a tour of the lake (looking gorgeous right now!). There were plenty of signs of active fish and after a quick chat about strategy, we left them to it.
Rest and bait do the trick
It took Ian and Caroline a good 48 hours to properly unwind and catch up on their sleep so they didn’t actually wet a line until Tuesday. They were still busy though as they watched the water, did feature finding and pre-baited spots and this is essential preparation for success here.
Giving the lake a rest and pumping bait into various spots actually worked in their favour and Caroline had a 30lb mirror on the bank just 30 minutes after dropping the first trap! You go girl!
Caroline then had two more takes from the same spot but got smashed both times even after bucket testing 25lb Big Game mainline. We suspected that they were probably cats, they are crazy powerful mind!
Payback
It can take a few trips to Beausoleil to wrap your head around the place but if you can, the rewards are there to be had. Ian and Caroline have paid their dues, done the graft and learnt the lessons. This session was all about payback.
By focusing on the details such as hand sharpened hooks, pre-baiting and resting the spots, the results came easily. They were now in the zone and catching at will.
Ian caught a string of cracking carp, all 30lbs+, Bump at 35lbs, the Snub Nosed common at 32lbs and then Horizon at a whopping 41lbs 6oz! Man, that fish has been on the munch!
Fantastic results considering that that they didn’t fish the nights. Friday was a bit quiet but Ian did have a run that he didn’t connect with.
Rigs and Bait
Ian and Caroline only use our Beausoleil bait and rigs and after a couple of tutorials during previous visits, they are experts at rig maintenance. The fish were obviously having it and the spots were being cleaned so Ian wasn’t shy with the bait and he let them have it (so much so that I had to roll some more during the session). That’s one of the major advantages of using our bait, the fish treat it as an accepted food source and they can get through a tremendous amount of it.
It was fantastic to see Ian and Caroline enjoy the place so much again. They are massive fans of the venue and they’ve already booked for two weeks next year so they’ll have the time to enjoy the place and the area properly 🙂
