A lovely holiday with some fishing on the side for these two friends.

This week we had the pleasure of welcoming two friends that have been fishing together for forty years. I’ve had to use their initials as they are both called Dave! The guys describe themselves as all rounders rather than true carpers but that doesn’t mean that they haven’t caught some nice specimens over the years and have had carp to 40lbs and cats to 90lbs. Five years ago DM suffered a stroke and unfortunately his angling has suffered as a result. DV has stood by his mate and works hard to keep him fishing as best as possible.

For the last few years they’ve visited a nearby runs water which they’ve done well on but this year they wanted to up the difficulty level and enjoy a different class of venue. Due to DM’s condition, night fishing is no longer possible unfortunately, although they do fish into dark from time to time.

By Wednesday, DV had banked a low twenty from one of the marks we’d talked about. DM had had a massive take but by the time he got to the rod and struck he didn’t connect with anything. Beausoleil is no runs water and although you have to admire their happy go lucky approach, catching these fish was proving to be a lot harder than they thought.

As you can see from the feedback, they still loved the place and how we run it. They understand that it’s a water that rewards those that put the effort in. Unfortunately for DV and DM the application of such effort just isn’t an option anymore but they wanted to have a crack at it anyway and fair play to them for having a go. They are super guys and it really was a pleasure to meet them. It’s a shame that the venue was a step too far for them nowadays and I’m sure if they’d have fished it 10 years ago the score sheet would look very different.
