A carp fishing holiday for Scott and Linda’s wedding anniversary

This week we had the pleasure of welcoming Scott and Linda to the venue for the first time. Scott has been to Dream Lakes with friends a few times but when he saw that a week at our venue was available they decided to combine their wedding anniversary and a French carp fishing trip into one. For Linda this would the first time she’d accompanied Scott on a fishing trip to France and Scott wanted to make sure she was very comfortable so Beausoleil was the perfect fit.

All quiet on the western front

I called round on Monday to check the oxygen levels (still good by the way!) and see how Scott was getting on. After the long journey, he had yet to do a night and had not had a take despite the fish being fairly active across the lake. As he was a French regular and hadn’t fished a full night yet I was not concerned so we had a quick chat about hooks and rigs and I left them in peace to enjoy their holiday.

Thursday reset

By Thursday, Scott had only caught one small carp and had decided to order our Nutty Banoffee boilies and home made rigs to try and change things round.

The fishing here is a world away from what he was used to and the prep has to be on another level if you want to catch. He knew when bite time was (4am) as he’d received a lovely flurry of beeps only for everything to remain silent afterwards… yep, they got away with it again. As usual it’s a matter of getting all those minute details to line up and if one thing is out of place it will be another blank night.

Trying to condense a full day’s tutorial into 1.5hrs isn’t possible but we covered the absolute essentials and by the time I left, I’d prepped three rods and a spare rig for Scott and found a few spots for him to target from the swim he was in. Now it was up to the carp gods to decide!

Too little too late

With an early departure on Saturday morning, Scott only had Thursday to bank a good’un but apart from a small kitten and loads of beeps that was all that happened. I truly believe that there were bites to be had, it just didn’t happen for him.

Scott tried a few different swims and really worked at his fishing and it’s a shame his efforts were not rewarded. These fish have kicked my arse a few times too so I know how they can be!

Apart from the tough fishing, the guys had a great holiday, taking their bikes out on the lovely Mayenne roads and absolutely loved the venue. It was a pleasure to meet them and we really look forward to seeing them again next year! There’s unfinished business for Scott here 🙂
