More massive cats out this week with two new lake records! The carp play hard ball and have a busy week doing rigs!
This week we welcomed back one of our favourite groups of Dutch anglers on their 2nd visit to the venue. Alex is mad about cat fishing and after a taste of the awesome sport they can provide, he was raring to have another crack at them. Since we had our first and second catfish break the 100lb mark last year, everyone that is into the cats wants to catch one of the beasts and see if they are up to the task. On arrival Alex told me that his objective was to catch a 100lber and if he did, they’d brought two big Cuban cigars to celebrate! We all had a good chuckle at this of course as realistically the odds are stacked against you. It was Alex who had the last laugh though as he proudly messaged me on Tuesday that he had indeed caught the catfish we believe is “Swakke” at a new lake record weight of 48kg or 105lbs! Damn, I bet those smokes tasted good! Fair play mate, you’ve done well, very well! Alex was very much targeting the cats and no matter where he dropped his rig, he got a pick up so he was obviously doing something very right!
Not to be outdone his lovely wife, Loes, wanted in on the action too and had a very nice carp and another big catfish. At 80lbs, this is a new lake record for a lady angler so they had a lake record each to take home with them! Excellent work I say! Unfortunately on the other side of the point swims all did not go according to plan. Kevin and Kim only managed one sturgeon between them. They did hook some cats but got smashed, they also told me that they hooked and then lost eight carp. Our carp can be tricky at times… Alex and Loes kindly told us that there is only one carp fishing destination in France for them, and that is us! We know they love the place but that came as quite a shock to us. I know we’ll be seeing them again next year and if Kevin and Kim choose to return then I hope that things go better on the fishing front for them.
