A tough week in bitterly cold conditions but the guys still managed 5 x 30’s to 38lbs!
For the first week of the 2018 season, we welcomed back two anglers that last visited us in 2015 (Jay & Steve) along with two other friends (Tony & Mick). Steve and Jay have fished in France quite a lot but for Mick and Tony it would be their first trip which is always exciting. The guys knew on arrival that based on the forecast it would be tough going but the weather held favourable for the first night and they banked two low 30’s on Sunday.
When I called in Monday, we started by re-spooling all rods with the 25lb Berkley Big Game as I could break their 20lb Ridgemonkey mainline with my bare hands…
For the next three days it was bitterly cold with overnight temps below freezing. They picked up a few single figure carp during the days but that was it. Fortunately, on Thursday the weather changed and they managed three more 30lbs to finish the week.
Carp of the week fell to Mick when he smashed his PB with a mirror of 38lbs known as Dink. Tony bagged two 30’s on his first ever trip and Jay had two as well. It was a shame that Steve missed out this trip but he got the short straw of point ‘A’ and the larger carp just weren’t anywhere near the shallows.
Despite the tough conditions the mood remained buoyant all week which was great to see. All carp came on our Nutty Banoffee and Shrimp & Cray boilies fished over house pellet.
