A relaxing fishing holiday with carp to 48lbs and cats to 70lbs
This week we welcomed Andy & Rick to the venue for their 8th trip. The guys love the place and as usual this was going to be a days only week with late starts and early finishes.

That’s not to say that they don’t take their fishing seriously or make the effort to fish hard when they are on the lake because they do. They just aren’t mad enough to fish 24/7 like some do!

Sunday morning was very cold here with a nasty northerly breeze bringing the temperatures right down to below zero. As a result it did take a couple of days for the fish to switch on but by Monday evening they were off and running and by Wednesday afternoon they’d had 3 good cats and two nice carp.

The cats weren’t the monsters that we’d seen in the first two weeks, these were much more manageable in the 60 – 70 lbs range. We’ve been talking to guests about how the really big cats have now outgrown the venue and we’ll be finding them a new home this winter. However, rest assured that we will still have some catfish left to fish for and cats in the 60 – 90lb+ range are a lot of fun to hook and land because they really do pull back!

With the cold weather, the shallows have not yet woken up but after seeing a couple of shows, Andy grabbed a rod, wandered into the home swim and flicked a rig out. It didn’t take long for that one to rip off and that was another one on the score sheet.

It never happened for Rick on the carp front but he did catch two good cats and walked away with a new catfish PB of 74lbs. Andy’s last carp was also a PB and a very sought after one named “The Sub”, this bruiser of a mirror now weighs in at 48lbs.
We still have some stock of the Nash Scopex squid and this is what the guys opted to use as it was a bait they know well. Small bait boat traps of boilies, flake and syrup did the business.

When you look at the rod hours they did and the weather, this was a very good session. The fish can be fickle at this time of year and not doing the nights will always cost some chances but Andy and Rick made the most of all the opportunities that came their way. It was special to see them again this year, and we are very much looking forward to welcoming them back next year.
For Jules ♥️
