A relaxing week’s fishing with some nice carp to 40lbs
This week we welcomed Dave and his wife Rose and son Phillip to the venue. Dave and Rose visited us 4 years ago but this was Phillip’s first trip. Phillip is a skilled angler and Dave’s been before so after a quick lake tour we left them to settle in.
Off to a flyer
Yet again Sammy the sturgeon couldn’t wait to get his picture taken and was out within a few hours of their arrival. It was definitely a busy week for Sammy as this would be the first of four trips to the bank.
Finally a carp
The guys didn’t actually hook a carp until early Tuesday morning but when the action did begin there was enough fun to share. Dave had two and Phillip was off the mark with Hyphen at 40lbs which he was delighted with.
I called round later for a chat and check on the oxygen levels. We’re getting there but the level isn’t where we’d like it to be yet and there is still a large amount of green algae present. We are running 3 aerator systems 24/7 and have been doing so for months now but this weather has meant challenging times for many fisheries. All things considered we’ve done alright with some decent fish coming out virtually every week but it hasn’t been easy.
Bait and rigs
Phillip and Dave are already fans of the Scopex Squid so that was the main choice. They did dabble with tigers and particles but preferred the classic combination of boilies and pellets. On the rig front, they used a supple variation of the multi-rig with a kicker over the eye to prevent the loop from closing up. It’s similar to my multi-blowback rig so I had no doubt it was going to work. Most rigs were rowed out and dropped by hand.
Steady action
Once they’d cracked the code the action was pretty steady for the rest of the week apart from Wednesday night which was very quiet. If you count every capture of the sturgeon and ignore the small catfish they made double digits which is good considering the conditions.
Happy times
For many Beausoleil is never just about the fishing and the guys really enjoyed a couple of day trips to Vitré for a nice steak lunch. They were only planning one outing but they liked it so much they went back on Friday! Well done guys on your captures and we look forward to more adventures next year!
Next week
Unfortunately our guests that were scheduled to visit the following week can’t make the trip and so Ren and I will be spending some time at the venue.
