A great mix of relaxing and fishing with carp to 46lbs
This week we welcomed David and Margo to Beausoleil for their first carp fishing adventure to France. David’s a keen angler but being Bolton based the biggest carp he’d managed so far was 22lbs. Beausoleil was going to be a massive step up for him on many levels so he opted to take a tuition session. This holiday was never going to be all about fishing. Trips out were planned on most days and David restricted himself to fishing 3 nights only.
Tough conditions
Catching the small cats wasn’t hard but he was here for a big-un. Unfortunately the big cats didn’t play ball again this week. The weather changed dramatically and any last remains of summer were blown away with a cold northwesterly wind and rain. TBH it was a bit grim! The oxygen was also low all week. We don’t normally have to run aeration at this time of year but this has been an exceptional year so we had the small unit running all week long.
Last chance saloon
David lost a big mirror at the net mid week which he was gutted about but he wouldn’t be the first newcomer to the venue to lose his first chance. David did not fish Thursday night so it all came down to the last day to turn the session into a memorable one (for the right reasons!). David had seen a big fish roll so he decided to wind in one of his rods and cast a solid PVA bag to it. At around 4pm, he connected with a big carp and this time it went in the back of the net. We were delighted for him as he had worked hard at his fishing all week and this fish meant the world to him. At 46lbs (named Merlin) it smashed his PB clean out of the park.
Rigs & Bait
I showed David two rigs: the mono D and the blowback multi. He really liked the blowback multi as it’s easy to swap hooks after a capture or a reset. On the bait front David used Scopex Squid 18mm and some house carp pellets.
Not sunbathing weather
Margo was hoping for better weather for this trip, the word sunbathing was even mentioned… Unfortunately, we’ve just had the wettest week in months! However, the local towns and restaurants proved to be a hit and they had some lovely trips out.
Well done to David for putting the effort into his fishing and for not giving up! We know they loved the place and look forward to a return trip in the future.
