A good period of fishing for all guests

At the start of the month we welcomed Karl and Gillian back to the venue for their 2nd visit. Karl did the tuition with me last year and it didn’t take him terribly long to catch one this time. Karl has only ever fished days but he really wanted to take the plunge and do a night this time. It was strange, a little scary and challenging at times but he did it and it caught him his largest carp of the week at 43lbs.

I think the biggest take away from the experience for Karl was just how well equipped you need to be for night fishing. Karl’s fishing hours were restricted to late afternoons and evenings but this didn’t stop him catching at least one per day which was great to see. Karl is very at home with my Deadly-D rig and tied a fresh one every time he put a rod out. All carp fell for our standard Scopex Squid Carp food pack with some oily hemp particles sprinkled into the bait boat for a little something extra. He also banked Lilly at 42lbs 6oz. Good work mate 👏

Back for more

Next up we welcomed back father and son duo Gary and Ryan. They first visited us in 2020 and it was great to see them back again. Gary travels a lot and Ryan now lives in Spain so it was a rare opportunity for them to spend time together and that was what this holiday was all about. The conditions looked really good for a bite or three but to my surprise, Ryan messaged me on Monday morning to say they hadn’t hooked anything.

Not wanting them to waste anymore time, I popped over and gave them a few pointers. I hadn’t been home long when Ryan reported that he’d hooked and lost one (close but no cigar). Thankfully, the next bite wasn’t far away and Ryan was off the mark.

By the next morning, they were on the right track and they’d banked 4. They are both super busy and they don’t get much fishing time. Four years is a long time and it looks like a little rust had set into their fishing which wasn’t tricky to remove.

Ryan ended up with 9 carp in total but never caught that 40 he wanted. Rather unusually all the bites came from just one spot. He tried everything he could with the other two rods but he couldn’t buy a bite from them.

The other really weird thing was the number of commons that they caught. Our commons can be rather elusive and yet this week, more commons than mirrors were caught which is unheard of.

Over in the Big Double, Gary had two, Ryan is the super keen angler of the two of them and Gary is happy for Ryan to do all of the prep for him. For Gary, this was more about spending some quality time with his son and catching a couple was a bonus.

Bait & Rigs

With very little time to prepare for this trip, the guys asked me to make up some blowback multi rigs ahead of the session. They used these all week and they produced all their fish. The guys got through plenty of Scopex squid boilies, flakes and pellets.

Well done guys, it was great to see you back and until next time!
