A relaxing holiday with a bit of fishing

This week we welcomed Micahel & Jean to the venue for the 2nd time. It’s been 12 months since their first trip to us and they’ve already booked for 2024 so let’s just say that they like it here! Unfortunately, they were delayed and only arrived on Sunday. As Michael had already done the tuition session last year, I gave him all the latest updates and left them to get settled.

Michael caught his first fish on Monday afternoon with a nice carp just under the 30lbs mark. I swung by Wednesday for a catch up but he’d not managed to add anything more to the score sheet.

This was partly our fault as Michael had rented our old bait boat which was getting twitchier and twitchier and unfortunately, after a few attempts at using it, Michael had to abandon that plan and use the rowing boat. If you’ve never used a rowing boat before, it can be quite the challenge… I know, I had to learn the hard way myself! So after a crash course on rowing, I was confident Michael would be able to implement the new plan.

On Thursday Michael managed to add another carp to the board. Well, when I say Michael, it was actually Jean who hooked the carp while Michael had nipped back to the house! Jean does fish a little so she knew what to do. After a solid flurry of bleeps she recognised that the line had tightened so she picked up the rod and lifted into it.

She knew how to cup the spool to stop it from spinning and then it was just a case of shouting and hoping that Michael wasn’t too far away! After holding the rod and controlling the carp for an extended period of time, Jeans’ arms were quite tired so she struggled to net the carp for Michael but all’s well that ends well and a nice 30lb common went into the back of the net.

Michael fished 12 noon until 12 midnight each day except for one night when he fished through but that really didn’t suit either of them so he stuck to a schedule that worked for them both. This was a holiday first with fishing second.

As last year, Michael learnt a lot this week and Jean had a lovely time relaxing and enjoying plenty of R & R. It was lovely to see them again and we very much look forward to welcoming them back next year.
