A record breaking week’s fishing with 38 carp landed including 2 x 50s and 2 x 40s!
This week we welcomed dad Rick and his sons, Grant, Euan and Tyler to the venue for the first time. This experienced group has fished quite a few, high profile, challenging venues.

Grant and Euan got off to a very strong start and by Wednesday Grant had banked ten carp to mid 50. He’s an avid follower of our YouTube channel and from what I saw of his approach it looked spot on!

Catfish corner is not a popular swim as the fishing is mostly done at close quarters. It’s difficult not to spook the fish from here as you have to set up on the gravelled dam wall but Grant had no issues and caught on all three rods.

Over in Island Point, Euan was also doing well with six carp by Wednesday. Euan is also a fan of the Channel and was using some tips that we share on there.

Over in the point swims it was a different story as by Wednesday neither Rick nor Tyler had managed a bite, let alone a run. This didn’t seem to worry them at all though.

When we arrived on Saturday, we were delighted to hear that everyone had caught a few in the end.

Tyler had gone from zero to hero in the last few days with 8 carp. He turned his fortunes around by subtle adjustments in rig positioning.

A few feet either way can make a lot of difference here. Grant had powered on to catch 15 carp in total.
Euan caught a few more as well. Rick has banked cats to 165 lbs at other venues but he got bust up by one of our monsters. He caught 4 carp though which was great to see.

Rigs & bait
The guys opted to bring their own freezer bait with them. I can’t remember what it was but obviously it worked for them. Bait flavour really doesn’t matter much here. Good bait is good bait and if you get everything else right, you’ll do well! On the rig front I saw some D-rigs and a little claw rig. Lead systems were running inlines.

The guys had an incredibly successful week catching 38 carp in total. The oxygen levels continue to be high and stable even with the increase in water temperature and this is making a huge difference to the quality of the fishing. It’s going to warm up considerably this week so it will be interesting to see what happens. We could well see some signs of spawning with air temperatures forecast to hit 26°C by the end of the week.
