New PBs all round for these 3 anglers from Devon on their first fishing trip to France.
This week we welcomed James, Roy and Adrian to the venue for their first trip to France which is always exciting. They have about 4 years of angling experience each and this was always going to be a good test of their skills. James was off to a good start with three takes on the first night but only landed one of them. After this flurry of activity no more runs fell to his rods until very early Friday morning when he connected to one of our catfish. At 63lbs this is the smallest cat to be banked for some time but it still gave a very strong account of itself and took James 30+ minutes to land. Over the other side of the lake, Roy managed three takes and banked one of them. Fortunately it was a new PB by some margin and the biggest carp any of the lads had seen at 35lbs so it was smiles all round.
Adrian was in the big double and banked two nice carp to 34lbs but lost a couple of good-un’s including at big catfish after a 40 minute battle which he was gutted about. Adrian did everything right including following our guidelines of 30lb mainline, but unfortunately it failed when it became entangled with his other rod. We would always recommend winding in all rods as soon as it’s clear that a good fish has been hooked. Adrian was so pleased with his new mirror carp PB that he couldn’t resist a water shot despite the temperature!
For James and Roy this was also their first week long session and they found it tough going at times. On the other hand Adrian has done many weeklong sessions on harder waters and loved every second of it of his time here. We wish them all the best in their fishing.
