The week of 7 August 2027 has just become available

Quality over quantity this week

This week we welcomed Jeff and Kay to the venue for their first visit. Jeff has fished in France a number of times before but this would be his first serious carping session for 25 years.

To make the most out of the week he booked a tuition session and we spent a very constructive day together. Every tuition is a bit different as each one is tailored to the needs of the angler. Jeff loves solving problems and is very methodical so the tuition was more about refining his approach and giving him a framework he could build from.

It didn’t take him long to see a fish on the bank, in fact he banked one 45 minutes after starting fishing on Saturday night! It’s easy to overthink a week’s session but one thing is for sure, you can’t go wrong if you target a showing fish with a quality rig.

Jeff was very keen to make the most of his time here but this was as much a holiday for himself and his wife as anything else so he only did the one night. The conditions were not very favourable this week with cool easterly winds and high pressure but by traveling light and targeting the fish from various angles, he banked another two quality carp before his week was up. Very nice work 👍 For rigs he adopted my simple mono hair tied with 25 lbs (0.45) Armourline and a trick inline running lead and one fish was caught on a KD rig.

Even if you have good skills and good instincts and a little help from me, this place is no pushover but that’s what makes it a very interesting lake to fish. The fish were visibly active with shows on a daily basis (more so towards the end of the week).

I know what this place is like, even when I know I’ve got everything spot on it can still play with your head. The good news is that this is exactly the sort of fishing that Jeff enjoys!

Kay doesn’t fish but she very much enjoyed the peace, tranquility and the wildlife. Over the years they holidayed in many gites and she assured me that this was the nicest place they’d ever stayed which is always good to hear. It was nice to meet them and we look forward to seeing them again next year and in 2027 as they have already re-booked 2 trips.
