A new lake record carp this week of 56lbs 8oz

This week we welcomed back Josh and his dad Leon along with family friend Ash for their 2nd visit to the venue. It’s been a couple of years since we saw them and their first visit was a bit of a baptism of fire as the lake was very different to what they were used to.

Since the tuition session, Josh is a changed man. He literally eats, sleeps and breathes carp fishing and when we met them on Saturday he was so keen to get going that he’d half loaded a barrow full of gear before we left!

By Tuesday, nothing had been out but they’d had chances. Josh had suffered a hook pull at the net (aghh!) and his dad had been bust up twice… (ouch). Ash was struggling to get his rigs in position with the rowing boat due to the high winds. They were looking for a few pointers so we had a wander round and had a good chat.

It didn’t take long for their luck to change and Josh banked a 37lbs mirror (a new PB by 6lbs) and Ash banked the carp of a lifetime with The Sub at 48lbs (a new PB by 16lbs!) What a result! But Josh wasn’t done yet.

The next night Josh had a double take during a short feeding spell and banked Mr. Angry at a new lake record weight of 56lbs 8oz. What a result! Josh was fishing solo and did incredibly well to land two carp that bust off simultaneously. Especially when one of them was an absolute donkey. Great angling 👊

The guys bought plenty of Scopex Squid but they didn’t get through much of it in the end. On the rig front the mono hair and the mono D that I showed them last time did the business. Mr. Angry fell to a classic mono hair rig tied with 0.50 mono.

Well done guys and until next time!
