A tricky couple of weeks fishing with carp to 54 lbs and cats to 64 lbs
To begin this roundup we had a group of 4 anglers visit us for the first time. Henry had a low 40 on his first cast on Saturday night and followed that with a powerful common just as I was wrapping up the tuition session. Later in the week Rob banked Mr. Angry at 54 lbs and a catfish of 64 lbs which he was delighted with. Not bad for only his 2nd carp fishing trip ever!
Rob offered to share runs and between them they added a few more mid twenties to the score sheet.

Next up we welcomed Mark to the venue for his first trip. We don’t normally allow solo anglers for safety reasons but two members of his party had dropped out at the last minute and there was no way that Mark was going to miss his fishing holiday.
As an avid fan of the channel he’d also booked me for a tuition session. Mark has been an angler all his life and carp fishing for the last 6 years but this was a very different water to what he is used to. Mark is a real master at rig tying so we spent time on other areas he wanted help with.
Mark caught a couple of fish and unfortunately was bust up a couple of times by our catfish. Fishing as a solo angler on your first trip is particularly challenging and this place can be as cruel as it is kind, fortunately Mark is made of strong stuff and he didn’t let the experience break him.
The conditions haven’t been very favourable for the last 2 weeks with high temperatures so it’s not a complete surprise that we’re not seeing the captures we did back in April. However, the oxygen levels remain good and with our second bacteria treatment of the year now done, we are confident that they are going to stay that way for the rest of the summer and into the autumn.
