First fishing trip to France is the greatest fishing experience of their lives!
This year is our 12th season and after the last two years it was wonderful to be able to welcome guests already in March rather than halfway through the year. Bring on 2022!
This was Ben & Chris’s first trip to France so as you can imagine the excitement levels were off the scale for these two good friends. Although they have been fishing together for many years, they’d never done a session longer than 10 hrs. Going from day session angling to a full week is a gigantic leap and not one they wished to trust to luck, so they’d booked a day’s tuition to get them on the right path.
We’ve never fished outside of the UK before, and never done anything more than a single night fishing session. We highly recommend everyone who hasn’t fished Beausoleil before to take the opportunity of the tuition day, because it unearths some incredible realities about the fishing itself, as well as the habits and locations of the lake, that saves literally hours and hours of blindly leading around for features, which maximises your chances when in the water. It also saves money on piling bait in by the kilo and killing your swim. Thanks again for a wonderful experience, we will be back!!!!!!
Tuition
The tuition sessions are all about giving anglers the right methods, tools, and techniques to be successful here, and at other venues. Experience tells me that my approach can be radically different to how guests are used to fishing so it’s a massive leap of faith. It was a real pleasure to work with the guys and the time flew by so fast. We covered a serious amount of ground during the day and at the end Ben & Chris told me that they’d learnt more about carp angling in one day than they’d done in 20 years. It’s no exaggeration to say that they are changed anglers and that’s a very special thing for me.
The results come in!
The first bite arrived very early Tuesday morning and once they’d opened the batting, the guys were off. They adjusted their initial tactics and decided to spend half their stay on one side of the lake, and switched halfway through to cover the maximum amount of water during their visit. Ben fished at range using the rowing boat provided, and dropped his rig exactly on top of a gravelly patch amongst the silt and baited around it by hand. That’s the way to do it! Beausoleil is a spotty lake and all of Ben’s fish came from this one marginal spot. Chris used the bait boat approach, and fished tight to the island.
They finished the week with matching PBs of 43lbs each which is some feat of angling.
We are so delighted that the guys enjoyed their time with us so much. They had an amazing attitude and applied the method with full confidence and attention to the right details and that’s the secret to carp fishing really. The guys return home better anglers than when they arrived with some big carp pics and loads of great memories. I’d say that’s a great way to start 2022 😊
