A superb week’s fishing with carp to 55 lbs with loads of big 30’s and 40’s!

This week we welcomed back Mark & Darren to the venue for their 2nd visit. They first visited us in 2022 with a couple of other friends but this time they came with their better halves, Katie & Debbie.

The fishing has been fantastic and that was all down to the tuition on our first visit 👍

The guys did the tuition the first trip and absolutely loved it. Mark’s first words to me were:  “I’ve got ten packs of Nash Chod Twisters!”, haha! Nice mate, that’s the way!

The weather continued to be generally awful and Sunday was no exception with cold winds and heavy showers. The guys fished all day but it didn’t happen so they retired to the gite for a quiet night in.

Magic Monday

Things didn’t stay quiet for long and the photos started to appear in our whatsapp at a rapid rate! In total they had 3 carp each with the largest being Bournville at 40lbs. 6 carp between two guys doing days only is very very rare here… and it was only the beginning.

Tremendous Tuesday

Okay so “Tremendous Tuesday” is probably not a thing and probably never will be but how else do you describe a day that produced another 7 carp including Mr Angry making his first trip to the bank this year and weighing 55lbs! I mean, that’s crazy right? The fish were very evenly split between the guys, which in itself is rare. Darren bagged the two largest but Mark wasn’t exactly lagging behind, especially after he banked the magnificent Nicky at 44lbs. Our commons can be very elusive and when they trip up, you know you are doing it right!

Rigs & Bait

During the tuition on their first visit, Darren & Mark learned to tie my blowback multi rig and they both quickly understood its power; this is what they chose to use for the whole week because they had absolute confidence it was the right choice for them and the lake.

Any rig is only ever as good as the hook you are using and when you understand our lake eat hooks for breakfast, lunch and dinner, it’s easy to understand why they brought 100 with them! I’ve been saying this for years but any angler can instantly become a better angler if only they changed hooks more regularly but saying it is one thing, living it is something else. The blowback multi/running rig combo with Scopex Squid boilies, flakes, syrup and particles are a killer combination.

The bulk of the action happened on Monday & Tuesday but they still picked up one or two more every day during the remainder of the week.

A special week

Beausoleil does not fish at this level very often and it usually only happens once or twice a year. It doesn’t happen by accident, or chance. Obviously the weather plays a massive role but we’ve seen weeks, when on paper, it should fish really well and yet the results don’t follow. Even during favourable conditions you still have to join up all the dots. On Tuesday for example, Mark told me that his three carp had all come from the same spot and neither of the other two rods had done a beep.

This comes as absolutely no surprise to me. The lake is spotty and even if you know all the spots (and I still don’t!), knowing which ones to fish, from where and when is still a complex puzzle that only good angling can begin to solve. The guys fished really well, they capitalised on the conditions and put all their knowledge to good use. It was wonderful to see. Congratulations boys, you smashed it!
