A good week’s fishing with carp to 44 lbs and catfish to 65 lbs
This week we welcomed Michael and Christian to the venue for their first visit. Christian has fished in France a few times but for Michael this would be his first French adventure. Although Michael is an experienced angler, carp fishing is relatively new to him so he’s been binge watching plenty of our videos. Michael was determined to get the most from the session so he booked me for a tuition day.
As with many anglers, Michael had fallen into the same trap that I did 20 years ago: buy a load of stuff and see what works. Modern carp fishing is complicated and confusing and having learned the hard way myself, I see it as my job to make it simple. Because once you see how simple and easy it can be, carp fishing is a lot more fun!

Previously, Christian had only ever fished with lead clips, so running rigs was going to be very different for him. Although he’d watched a few of our videos on running rigs, he still wasn’t convinced but it’s a lot easier to explain this stuff face to face.

By Wednesday, they’d both caught two fish. Christian was in the 30s club and Michael had met Sammy and an upper twenty. By the end of the week, Michael had added 4 more including a 65lbs catfish, Perla at 44 lbs and Hyphen at 42 lbs. Nice work mate 👏👏👏. Christian had added one more but he was on the less productive side of the swim this time around.

Michael also had a close encounter with one of our massive catfish. He tried everything he could to bring it in, and even got a dunking while trying to chase the fish with the rowing boat. He didn’t give up though and ended up on the other side of the lake, still connected to the fish but unfortunately the fish won the battle this time. Fair play though mate, you gave it your all.

As always, every single detail matters here to be successful so congrats to the guys for having faith in the plan and to Michael for achieving three firsts: first 40lb carp, first grass carp and first catfish 🏆 and we hope to welcome them back in the future.
