A tricky week with one 34lbs mirror and the sturgeon.
This week we welcomed John and Carol and friends Steve and Jo. Both John and Steve have fished the venue twice before some ten years ago. It was a very different venue as it was stuffed with carp ranging from 15 to 25lbs and an insane number of catfish. Back then the fishing was basically a run a chuck doing days only! The guys knew that Beausoleil nowadays was very different and they expected fewer runs.
Originally, they weren’t going to do nights but we strongly recommended they did so they braved the cold and wet with the gear they had and managed 3 out of 7 nights. Things got off to a good start with the sturgeon coming out on Sunday but by Monday nothing more had occurred. A quick inspection of hooks and rigs told their own tale so I spent a couple of hours showing the guys a few edges. In the end it took until the very end of the week for them to create a few chances and along with some hook pulls they managed to bank one carp of 34lbs and a small catfish.
It was a very steep learning curve for the guys but they enjoyed the challenge and return to the UK with a few tricks up their sleeve. They were both very complimentary of the work we’d done and they said that they’d like to return one day for another crack at them which was nice to hear. The ladies had a relaxing week with a trip out to Vitré which they enjoyed and were most relieved that both the lads had caught.
If you’re used to day sessions at a runs water and catching, Beausoleil is going to be a massive shock to the system. Don’t forget that we do offer tuition sessions which will make a massive difference to your chances of success no matter how experienced you are.
