Our monster catfish were on the prowl again this week with 2 x 80’s and a 90 and yet again our lakeside accommodation was rated as fantastic!

This week we welcomed another new group to the venue. Party leader Duncan actually lives in France and couldn’t resist spending a week at our carp fishing venue with his nephew and a friend. Duncan’s an experienced angler but for his two companions, this was going to be a whole new experience. Stuart is an experienced sea angler and this would be the first time he’d fished for carp and catfish. Steve had sampled carp fishing before and under the guidance of Duncan caught a carp last year of 19lbs. I would never normally recommend Beausoleil for a novice carp angler but felt confident with Duncan’s guidance they could have a good week. Considering their level of experience and the unfavourable carp fishing weather, I reckon they did alright! Highlight of the week for me was Steve’s capture of The Big Apple at a new top weight of 36lbs. Steve patiently stalked the carp at very close quarters during the heat of the day and managed to trip him up by delicately lowering a piece of luncheon meat in front of him… the mid thirty was obviously in the mood for a light snack and gently sucked in the bait. Despite the overhanging trees, Steve managed some form of strike and all hell broke loose apparently as the carp was caught by complete surprise. After an epic tussle under the trees, the carp was safely slipped into the net. Nice work mate! Everyone caught new P.B.’s

What did you find were the best swims/tactics/baits?

Island point was where most of the catfish activity came from with carp coming from the island margin and snake bank margin. Matt’s Blue Oyster accounting for multiple fish. When the weather was hot we went stalking in the margins with free lined luncheon meat and caught our best carp of 36lbs!

How was the weather?

Over cast with showers at the start of the week then clear skies and hot (32 degrees) for the latter half.

How did you find the accommodation?

Fantastic! Although we mainly slept by the lake.

What could we do to improve your holiday?

Matt’s help & advice on Tuesday was invaluable... but it would have been even better if he had come of Monday!! (for us anyway).

Would you recommend our venue to a friend?

Yes
